It’s Breath-Taking

Breath-Taking”, the long overdue solo album by Anthony Quigney is finally here and will be released at the Ennis Trad Fest on Nov 14th (Pre-Order Nov 1st). Anthony has been a member of the world-renowned Kilfenora Ceili Band for almost 3 decades. He has toured far and wide with the band and has recorded 7 band studio albums. In addition he has recorded the highly acclaimed duet album, A Clare Conscience with Aidan McMahon in that time.

A native of east Clare, a music strong hold, he grew up learning his craft as a musician among many of the masters in the county.

This cheekily titled album, “Breath-Taking”, alludes to the countless breaths that Anthony has taken in 40 years of flute & whistle playing. In this collection of his favourite tunes, both old and new, he draws on the influences of his native Clare and further afield while performing them in his own unique style. Staying true to the Tradition while exploring new ground is at the heart of Anthony’s musical philosophy and is reflected throughout “Breath-Taking”.

Anthony is joined on this recording by friends and family. He is delighted and proud to have his son, Aidan, accompany him on piano in his first ever studio recording. His sister, Marie, also joins him for 2 selections on piano. Guitar accompaniment is provided by Conal O’Kane of Goitse fame. Anthony is also backed by three of his Kilfenora Céilí Band friends; Eimear Howley on fiddle, Brian O’Grady on double bass and TG4 Young musician of the year 2020, Sharon Howley, on cello. Dermott Sheedy’s unique  bodhrán rhythms pulse throughout.
